FROM A WHITEOUT TO ALL GREEN

We can’t really complain if we only have one week of winter this year.  It’s Chicago and the weather is always screwy.  The town turned out last weekend to begin Saint Patrick’s celebration only to get dumped on with snow.  But by the time St. Patrick’s Day gets here on Friday, we’ll be in meltdown mode.  Just in time for a busy weekend at Touché.

03-15-17wSo, let’s start with Saint Patrick’s Day on Friday.  Green up and join us for a proper celebration, $2 pints of green beer, specials on Irish whisky and our annual “Best Kilt Legs” Contest.  Toast the Irish with us as we kick off this crazy weekend.   I’ll host our contest at midnight for all to check out guys in their kilts.

Don’t have a kilt to wear?  No problem, we’ll make sure that everyone that wants to enter can by providing some plaid material and a few safety pins so you can make your own.  This makes our “Best Kilt Legs” Contest one of the biggest  events of the year and a great way to shake off winter.

Then there’s our “Luck of the Irish” raffle where you just might win huge cash.  That’s because we are offering Lottery tickets for prizes and you just might scratch your way to big bucks.  Which brings me to another be part of our busy weekend – the Illinois Leather Alliance Contest weekend.

ILLA_2017_PosterwThe ILA hosts a big contest with several state titles on the line this weekend, namely IL Leather Sir/boy, IL Master/slave, IL Puppy/Trainer, IL Bootblack and IL Ms Leather Pride.  All of these titles are feeders to other regional and/or national titles.  Master Michael and slave angie won the state title a few years ago and eventually were named IL Master/slave in 2014.  They head up the ILA as hosts for this big contest weekend.

In addition to our St Patrick’s Day party on Friday will be the ILA Welcome Party. Proceeds from the “Luck of the Irish” raffle will help support the ILA contest weekend.  Judges and contestants will be introduced during Friday’s festivities.

Saturday will be a busy day, so busy we will open at 11am to pack it all in.  The ILA contests differ from most in one way, interviewing the contestants in public.  Everyone is welcome to sit in and listen as the judging panel talks to each of the contestants.   This will take place at Touché beginning at noon.

There will also be a series of classes during the afternoon as well, all open to all.  We’ll have a schedule of topics, presenters and times posted at the bar on Friday.

The big contest will be held at the Leather Archives & Museum Saturday night.  Doors open at 6:30 with the contest starting at 7pm.  Once the contest ends, the party will move back to Touché for a Victory bash for the winners.

03-15a-17wSaturday happens to be our GEAR NIGHT as well with BLUF/Chicago.  Between the contest crowd and the men of BLUF there will lots of leather in the house.  Get yours on as there is a dress code for the Club Room.  BLUF will be hosting their annual silent auction for the club with lots of gear and more up for bids.  And of course our barber and bootblack will be on duty for this busy night.

Finish off your weekend with a stop by Touché for our SUNDAY BEER BUST.  The absolute best deal in town, $1 drafts of Bud and Bud Light, sodas and Pucker shots all day!  Catch up with your buddies in the afternoon for the March madness and other sports games on our screens.  Or stop in later for our SUNDAY MOVIE NIGHT at 7pm in the Club Room.

AlanLastly, I have some sad news.  Our buddy and coworker Alan passed away last Friday after a battling  along recovery from heart surgery.  Alan had been a part of our team for many, many years and had suffered a severe heart attack last spring.  He recovered and returned to serving at the bar last August but required follow up surgery in November. But this time he just wasn’t able to beat the odds.  We are planning a celebration of his life and will make sure to post the news once details are worked out with his family.

Sorry to end with such news.  But let’s remember that Alan would have been the first one here on Friday in a leprechaun costume to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.  We’ll start the night with a toast to our buddy.
